President William Ruto On Monday he visited Nyeri County, where he launched the provision of NYOTA business start-up capital to 6,982 entrepreneurs from the area.

The event, held at the Kabiru-ini ASK Stadium, brought together youths from Nyeri, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Kirinyaga counties.

Speaking, Ruto said that the STAR program targets 820,000 youth across the country and is built on four key pillars: business support, recognition of previous education, training and mentoring, as well as savings.

The event had an interesting and touching moment when the president stopped his speech for a while to carry the little one who accompanied his mother to the event.

Ruto invited some of the beneficiaries of NYOTA to come on stage to share how they planned to spend the money, while a woman with her child stood up and explained her plan to open and expand a syrup shop.

Ruto, excited, asked the child’s name before taking him into his mother’s arms.

When he tried to return the child to his mother, the child took hold, much to the delight of the cheering crowd.

“It seems that I will go with this daughter of yours,” Ruto laughed while addressing the audience while still carrying the child.

Ruto advises NYOTA beneficiaries on poultry farming

The President also spoke to a young man from Kirinyaga who explained that he had a plan to use NYOTA funds to start a chicken farming business.

The excited young man told Ruto that it would be his first attempt at the business, as he had never tried chicken farming before.

Ruto encouraged him and also gave advice from his own experience in the sector.

“If you have time, look for me. I know how to run a chicken business. I can give you a little advice,” said Ruto.

In total, Ruto distributed KSh 173.2 million to 6,982 entrepreneurs during the Nyeri event.

The President said that the STAR program is part of the government’s broader strategy to put youth at the center of the national development agenda.

He said the program aims to use the power, skills, knowledge and creativity of young people to drive economic growth.

The day before, more than 9,800 young people from BometBaringo and other South Rift counties received KSh 22,000 each in the first phase of NYOTA funds.
