On Sunday, January 11, Gachagua’s close ally, Governor Mutahi Kahiga, welcomed the President William Ruto at ACK St Paul’s Church, Kariki, Othaya, Nyeri County.
Is Mutahi Kahiga a member of UDA?
Addressing the faithful, Kahiga appeared to deny his relationship with Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) after announcing that he is still a valid member of the UDA whose dues have been paid in full.
The service was attended by President Ruto, Deputy President Kithur Kindiki along with other senior government officials.
“The last time I checked, I am still a member of the UDA, and that is true,” said Kahiga while defending his presence at Ruto’s event.
Kahiga said he voted for President Ruto and still respects him as the country’s president, wondering why people are confused by his political moves.
Did Mutahi Kahiga ask the people to support Ruto’s government?
The governor of Nyeri emphasized his constitutional duty to cooperate with the national government and said he will be welcoming the president whenever he visits the county.
“I voted for Ruto, he is my president, and I am the governor. I don’t understand why some people are confused. I still have a president,” said Kahiga as the believers cheered.
The governor said now is the time to support the development agenda of the government instead of starting election politics early.
He warned the people against starting political activities early, reminding that the time for the campaign will come in due time.

Kahiga’s latest statement is expected to spark a political debate in the country, especially considering that he is seen as a close ally of the former Deputy President.
He is the only governor elected from Mount Kenya who publicly criticized President Ruto’s move to support Gachagua’s removal from power.
