The Minister of Education, Julius Ogamba, said that the students were involved in cheating the exams.
Minister speaking Eldoret On Friday, January 9, when releasing the KCSE results, he noted that the ministry cannot be sympathetic to the cheating methods used by students to get good grades.
The results have been canceled after the completion of the investigation of cheating cases held during the examination period.
“I would like to reiterate our position regarding the integrity of the examinations. In November last year, we noted that there were incidents that were being investigated, and measures should be taken after the completion of the investigation. After the completion of the KCSE examination, 1,180 students were found to be involved in the violation of examination procedures. Therefore, and in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, their examination results have been canceled,” said Ogamba.
The annulment of results in this year’s exam represents an increase of more than 40% compared to the year 2024, where 840 results were annulled.
How was the KCSE 2025 exam? The Ministry of Education noted that A grades in 2025 were better compared to a total of 1,693 A grades in 2024. A total of 1,932 candidates got an average grade of A.
Overall, 270,750 candidates were eligible for direct entry to universities with grades C+ and above, compared to 246,391 the previous year.
Those who got C‑ and above increased to 507,131 from 476,889, while those who got B+ and above rose to 634,082 from 605,774.
National schools led the way with 1,526 A’s, followed by extra-county schools (197) and private schools (185). In group C+ and above, sub-county schools outperformed county schools, recording 72,699 candidates against 6,600.

First, the President William Ruto he praised the good results during the Friday morning session at the State Lodge Eldoret with Minister Ogamba and senior officials of the ministry.
The Ogamba team was at the state lodge to inform the president about the results of the 2025 secondary school students.
How William Ruto said about KCSE 2025 results
Ruto described the results as satisfactory, noting that more than half of the candidates achieved university entrance marks.
A total of 993,226 candidates attended the exams between October 21 and November 21 in more than 10,000 centers across the country.
He emphasized that the top performing students were mostly girls, saying about half of the candidates were girls and about 270,000 got C+ or above, eligible for direct university entry.
From that total, 492,019 were boys and 501,214 were girls, and the exams covered 30 subjects.
