Elgeyo Marakwet – Member of Parliament for Endo Ward, Jeremiah Kibiwott, has passed away.

The news of the death was officially announced by the Speaker of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly, Kibire Kipng’etich.
Kibiwott died after suffering from what disease?
Kibiwott, who was serving for the first time in the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly, died while undergoing treatment.
Rumors showed that he was hospitalized in Nairobi after a long illness.
The speaker said:
“It is with great sadness and deep regret that I inform about the death of Mr. Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum, the elected Member of Parliament for Endo Ward, Marakwet East Sub-County.”
The speaker described the deceased as a leader who served his constituents with full dedication. Apart from representing the people of Endo, Kibiwott served as a member of various committees of the County Assembly.
Kibiwott, a strong debater, was the Chairman of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee. He also served as a member of:
- Committee on Governance, Justice, Public Services and IT
- Committee on Tourism, Trade, Cooperation, Industry and Wildlife
The speaker said:
“He showed exceptional professionalism, integrity, and deep understanding in the implementation of his parliamentary duties. His contribution to parliamentary debates, law and representation of the people will be remembered with great respect.”
“He served the Parliament and the people of Endo Ward with commitment, determination, and a sense of responsibility. He preferred the interests of the people and always sought their opinions in making decisions that affect them in his legal and representative duties,” added the speaker.
Kibiwott was elected on the ticket of UDA in 2022, defeating John Lochaa Kiptum, who was given representation in 2017.
The Speaker announced that the County Assembly will lead the preparations to give Kibiwott a proper burial.
Kibiwott’s death came a few weeks after the death of Patrick Lerte, MCA for Samburu West.

The MCA fell ill shortly before being admitted to the Samburu County Referral Hospital, where he later died.

His death was confirmed by the Secretary of the County Assembly, Fred Lenapeer, who made it clear that Lerte’s condition worsened after a short period of illness.
Samburu leaders mourned him as a dedicated public servant who served Porro Ward with love and commitment.
Throughout his tenure, he was celebrated for:
- Encourage grassroots development
- Demand better service delivery
- To serve his citizens with humility and diligence
How Samburu leaders mourned Patrick Lerte
Secretary Fred Lenapeer sent his condolences to the family, colleagues, and residents of Porro Ward, describing Lerte as a reliable leader whose death has left a great void in the Samburu County Assembly.
Samburu West Member of Parliament, Naisula Lesuuda, and Samburu North Member of Parliament, Eli Letipila, also mourned Lerte, sending their condolences to his family and constituents while recognizing the shock and sadness that spread in the area.
Lerte, elected in 2022 on the Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket under the coalition of Kenya Firstserved until the party merged with UDA in January 2025.
