The players and technical bench of the men’s national football team Tanzania have arrived safely in Dar es Salaam from Morocco.

Taifa Stars received a hero’s welcome at the Julius Nyerere International Airport as soon as they arrived from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they achieved a milestone.
How Tanzania was received after their success in the AFCON 2025 tournament
Tanzania qualified for the knockout round for the first time in their history, emerging as one of the best placed teams after finishing third in their group.
They met Morocco in the Round of 16 and narrowly lost to the hosts and exited the tournament.
The government has rolled out a red carpet for the players to celebrate the success in Morocco despite the early release.
President Samia Suluhu sent a plane to Morocco to bring the players home, while the government spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, gave clear guidelines on how the team would be received.
Fans filed their numbers as early as 8am to receive the team which was supposed to land around 4am local time, but the flight was delayed.
The team arrived at 12:28 am, with the head coach, Miguel Gamondi, and captain Bakari Mwamnyeto, being among the first to get off the chartered plane.

Addressing the media at the airport, Sports Minister Palamagamba Kabudi, who accompanied the team to Morocco, congratulated them on their success, saying it was a sign of better things to come.
“I am very happy because of the big victory they got in this competition. First, Tanzania in this AFCON competition has reached the Round of 16. This is an indication that there are better things before AFCON 2027, which we will organize together,” he said through Azam Sports.
“Among the three co-hosts, Tanzania is the only one of the three that has regularly participated in the AFCON tournament, and this time again, it has made Tanzania take East Africa to another high level, showing that in the next AFCON 2027, Tanzania will not be just a participant. Considering what they showed this time in the matches in Morocco. When you look at our match against Nigeria, and also when you look at our match against Morocco.”
Taifa Stars will be given a national lunch by President Samia on Saturday in Dar es Salaam.
How Tanzania reached the Round of 16 without winning any game
We previously explained how Tanzania qualified for the Round of 16 AFCON without winning any game.
Tanzania lost against Nigeria before drawing with Uganda and Tunisia, but still managed to reach the knockout round with two points.
They went through as one of the best losers after finishing third in their group.
