Miguna insisted that he will not hide the truth about Raila’s legacy, insisting that fairness and honesty are his methods, and criticized the late for paying more attention to contracts than the interests of the people.
In an online interview with Canada’s TV47 on Wednesday, January 7, Miguna gave a personal and painful explanation, explaining that Raila was not special to him as people die every day.
“I would not stop everything I am doing because Raila has died. There are many people who die every day. Many Kenyans have died. Many people in the world die every day. And Raila was no better than them,” said Miguna clearly.
He added that his non-attendance was due to personal history, noting that the former prime minister did not attend the funeral of his relatives.
“Raila never came to the funeral of my relatives. I have lost many, including my sister-in-law and my father-in-law and many young people who supported me in 2018 after he betrayed me. So there was nothing special about Raila’s death, although Kenyans see that he became famous for the positions he held,” he added.
Miguna explained his decision with a broad view of the philosophy of human equality, stressing that no one’s life is more important than another’s.
“Each of us is equal. We are all human. Our lives are important. No one’s life is more important than the others. And that is the principle I live by. If you ever do me justice, I will do you justice. If you are good to me, I will be good to you. But if you do not do justice, I have no reason to be good to you. If you remain, I must speak the truth as an honest person,” he said.
The consequences of Raila’s political decisions
Miguna criticized Raila’s political strategies in his political career, claiming that they had brought great harm.
He pointed out that due to the decisions of the former prime minister, many Kenyans died in his name, while he joined in contracts with the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and now President William Ruto in 2024.
“It would be a lie for me to come on TV and lie that Raila was a man of honor, great as some Kenyans describe him. No, Raila betrayed millions of Kenyans. Millions of Kenyans have already died and been injured because of Raila Odinga, and he never counted them when he was entering into an agreement with Uhuru Kenyatta and recently with Ruto,” said Miguna.
He particularly complained about Raila’s influence in June 2024 during the protest led by Gen Z against the Ruto government.
Miguna said Raila’s decision to collaborate with Ruto you betrayed the Kenyan youth who were ready for change.
“We need to remember, Raila betrayed Gen Z. This must be said forcefully. If Raila Odinga had intervened and supported Ruto, we would have a new system. Ruto would have been removed from power,” said Miguna.
