Alai, who is a vocal member within ODM, questioned Kajwang’s political standing and credibility, claiming that the senator has never won an election without Raila’s support.

In a strong statement issued on Wednesday, January 7, Alai accused Kajwang’ of venturing into politics without direction and dismissed his alleged mission as meaningless.

“I have been told that Moses Kajwang’, who does not know how to campaign and win votes by his own efforts, is on a mission to send the leader of our party, Oburu Odinga, to Kalonzo Musyoka. Senator Moses Kajwang’, it is possible to ask for votes and be voted for. Please leave the classroom of Ting’ Bada Malo. You are involved in futile actions,” said Alai.

The MCA’s comments immediately sparked a public spat between the two politicians, with Kajwang’ responding via social media by dismissing Alai’s criticism and questioning his mental capacity.

“This one, every time he opens his mouth, proves that there is nothing between his ears,” Kajwang’ replied.

How did Kajwang’ defend Uhuru?

At the heart of the tension is Kajwang’s defense of the former president Uhuru Kenyattawho has faced fresh criticism from some ODM members who accuse him of meddling in the party’s internal affairs.

In his comments earlier that week, Kajwang’ said that Raila had a lot of respect for Uhuru and that that respect did not change even after the opposition lost the 2022 presidential election.

He warned members against rewriting history according to the current political situation and urged them to avoid using the current political arrangements to fuel internal confusion.

Kajwang’ called on ODM to maintain unity and encourage the party to collaborate with what he called “all progressive parties” to achieve long-term national goals.

He explained that cooperation and broad alliances are important in leading Kenyans towards a model Canaan, a statement that has long been associated with Raila’s political message.

“In his lifetime, Raila Odinga valued Uhuru Kenyatta very much. That respect did not change even after our ‘failure’ in the 2022 elections. We cannot rewrite the narrative because Baba is no longer with us.

The 2022 election is past history and should not be used to cause confusion within ODM. We must take our people to a symbolic Canaan.

ODM must embrace all progressive parties committed to achieving this goal,” said Kajwang’.
