Raila’s Chief Agent Blasts ODM Leaders, Accuses Them Of Betraying The Former Prime Minister

The main presidential agent of Raila OdingaSaitabao Ole Kanchory, in the 2022 General Election, has launched a harsh criticism against some close associates of the late former prime minister.

The remarks came as the nation celebrated what would have been Raila’s 81st birthday, a moment Kanchory described as bittersweet.

Who in ODM has betrayed Raila’s vision?

Although he recognized the importance of celebrating the late leader’s legacy, he said the behavior of some politicians since Raila’s death has been very disturbing.

Kanchory mentioned Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed, Energy Minister Opiyo Wandayi, and Finance Minister John Mbadi for criticism.

“If Baba were alive today, Junet would not be speaking the way he is speaking. Wandayi would not be speaking the way he is speaking. Mbadi would not be speaking the way he is speaking. If he woke up today, Baba would fire these people on the spot,” Kanchory commented.

He claimed that their recent actions within the party and government betray the principles that Raila defended.

The lawyer accused them of putting personal interests above national interests and weakening the unity of the party at a time when ODM’s direction is very important.

“They have abused the position that Baba left them, for their personal gain and benefit. They have completely abandoned what Baba stood for. And so, it is a great shame to see. But the good thing is that we are here. We are here and we will correct the direction as we go,” he said.

Is Kanchory still a member of the ODM party?

He further said that his relationship with Raila put him in a position to witness the inner workings of the party directly.

The lawyer narrated how the former prime minister trusted him and included him in his close group during the 2022 presidential campaign.

“You know, before I became Raila Odinga’s chief agent, I was one of the very few people who were appointed to his presidential campaign board. You know, when he announced the first names in 2021, towards the end of 2021, there were only seven of us on that board. Junet was not there. None of these people were there. Later, Baba in his wisdom chose me as his chief agent. A role which, you know, was, as you say, a very sensitive role,” Kanchory he remembered.

Kanchory also emphasized that despite the apparent turmoil among some ODM leaders, he is still committed to the party.

“I am still. I am a member of ODM for life. When you become a member of a party for life, you don’t do it until I disown you. And you know, I am not just… I was not just a member of ODM for life. I am a high-ranking member of ODM. So, yes, we are in ODM and we are in ODM to stay. Until it is announced otherwise,” he added.
