What is rheumatic fever?

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, rheumatic heart disease is a condition in which rheumatic fever permanently damages the heart valves.

Heart valve damage can begin shortly after an untreated or poorly treated streptococcal infection such as strep throat or scarlet fever. The immune response can cause an inflammatory state in the body, leading to progressive valve damage.

A man identified as el capitano shared that there was a need for awareness of rheumatic fever.
