The move is expected to change the direction of political alliances in Western Kenya towards the 2027 General Election.
Savula announced his withdrawal from DAP-K on Tuesday, January 6, after holding consultations with MPs from Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia counties during a meeting held at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega.
He said he can no longer remain in a political party that plans to be on the opposition side against the government.
“I cannot remain in the opposition because they have nothing of value, and from today I am not a member of them,” Savula announced.
The deputy governor of Kakamega said his decision was based on what he described as real development projects initiated by the administration of Kenya First Western Kenya, including the construction of hospitals and other infrastructure.
Savula further disclosed that the UDA had given him an important political role at the local level, where he will serve as the deputy governor of Bungoma Kenneth Lusaka in mobilizing the support of the ruling party throughout the region.
Speaking at the same forum, Lusaka strongly attacked the opposition, accusing them of lacking a clear manifesto that could give President Ruto a competitive edge in the next election.
He dismissed the “Tawe” slogan propagated by Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya, insisting that it has no political significance in Western Kenya.
Lusaka also revealed that Ruto gave him a personal responsibility to lead UDA’s mobilization efforts as the party prepares for the primaries and the 2027 general election.
“We have agreed to spread the UDA party in the West by all means. The opposition has no chance, and we will make sure it is dead,” Lusaka said.

Savula supported the governor’s statements, stressing that the UDA is now the only political body capable of bringing development to Kenyans, while opposition politics has come to an end.
Savula’s message to the opposition after joining the UDA According to Savula, opposition leaders should abandon any hope of winning the 2027 election, claiming they do not have a strong candidate to face President Ruto.
“The opposition has no direction; they do not have the ability to challenge William Ruto, and that is why you have decided to leave them,” Savula added.
His statements come following recent remarks made during Kibunguchy’s funeral, where Savula openly defended Kenya Kwanza’s administration and attacked his former party leader, DAP-K boss Eugene Malwa.
At that time, Savula claimed that Malwa does not have the political weight to oust Ruto.
In recent months, Savula has emerged as a strong critic of the united opposition, continuing to encourage its leaders to dissolve their parties and join the UDA, claiming that the ruling party is the only one capable of bringing meaningful progress.
Did DAP-K change its leadership?
This development comes a few weeks after information spread on the internet claiming that DAP-K had sacked party leader Eugene Wamalwa and appointed Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya as interim leader.
The document, which called for an emergency meeting of the NEC and listed new party officials, quickly circulated in political circles, fueling rumors of internal divisions within DAP-K.
DAP-K denied the report, publicly sharing the document with a “FAKE” stamp in red and warning supporters against false information.
