In a statement issued around noon on Sunday, Babu described the incident as a direct threat to his life.
He said he had gone to the restaurant after being invited by the high priest and was not accompanied by his bodyguard at the time.
“Yesterday afternoon, my friend who is a senior priest invited me to a meeting at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani area. After informing my bodyguards for the Christmas holidays, I drove to the venue and arrived around 9:40 at night,” Babu said.
He added that after talking for about 20 minutes, he stood up to leave and saw Alai sitting at a table near other people. He decided to greet them, but the situation allegedly changed suddenly.
Babu claimed that Alai once accused him of using social media to attack his wife. He said he denied knowing Alai’s wife or having any reason to participate in the online attacks against him.

The MP further claimed that the MCA suddenly became aggressive.
“At that time, Hon. Alai became aggressive, pushed me, took out a pistol, and hit me in the chest and jaw with it, all clearly visible to customers in the center,” Babu claimed.
He said he tried to defuse the situation, urging Alai to explain what he did to justify such hostility. According to Babu, Alai seemed to calm down for a while before continuing the dispute.
That member of parliament Embakasi Mashariki further claimed that Alai poured a glass of water on his face before the incident ended.
Robert Alai’s statement about the entire event
As of press time, Alai had not given a direct response to the serious accusations leveled against him.
However, MCA seemed to downplay the controversy through a series of short posts on social media.
In one post, he shared a typical Sunday greeting, writing:
“Good morning, good people. Happy Sunday!”
In a subsequent post he said he was from church and had prayed for everyone.
“I just came from church. I prayed for everyone.” (I’m from church. I have prayed for all of you.)
