On Saturday, January 3, Muthoni joined the mourners at the funeral of Alice Wangari Gakuya, the mother of the Member of Parliament for Embakasi North James Gakuya.

Why was Monical Muthoni booed?

The largely peaceful event turned violent after the Lamu women’s representative took to the stage to offer her condolences.

The young MP used the opportunity to praise the President’s dream William Ruto of Singore with the former DP looking at him.

According to Muthoni, the people of Mount Kenya enjoy good road networks and large electricity connections compared to other areas.

However, things changed after Muthoni announced that he was ‘tutam’, which politically means that he supports Ruto’s bid for re-election in 2027.

Part of the group invaded the stage and started attacking the young member of parliament while Gachagua looked on.

“I am impressed with the road network in your area. In our place, we only have the Marram Road. You people from Mount Kenya West look like you have already arrived in Singapore. I, like Muthoni, am a tutam person, yes, tutam because…,” Muthoni said as his speech was interrupted.

Muthoni was shouted at before he could finish his speech, causing chaos.

It took the intervention of Gachagua’s close allies, Senator Joe Nyutu and John Methu, to save Muthoni from a mob ready to beat him up.

Methu and Nytu surrounded the Lamu women’s representative and took her to safety while the bishop led the ceremony asking for calm.
