Meru – At least four people have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the busy Meru-Nanyuki Highway.

A police report showed that a Toyota Hilux collided with a Probox in the Timau area on Wednesday, December 31, leaving four other passengers seriously injured.
How did the Meru-Nanyuki Highway accident happen?
Preliminary investigations show that a Toyota Hilux car, which was heading towards Nanyuki at speed, it lost its right front tire, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into an oncoming Probox car around 7am.
Following the accident, two of the three passengers in the Hilux died on the spot. The Probox driver and one female passenger also died on the spot.
The four survivors suffered multiple injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition for immediate treatment.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary while the remains were towed to the police station as officers continue to investigate the accident.

How many people died on the road on December 23?
The accident comes days after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) confirmed an increase in road accidents during the festive season.
NTSA revealed that 25 people lost their lives in road accidents in several counties on December 23, 2025.
The NTSA communications office reported 16 fatal accidents in several counties, including Uasin Gishu, NakuruSiaya, Kakamega, Nyeri, Bungoma, Kiambu, Narok, Machakos, Nairobi, Turkana, and Kisii.
