The Cranes finished last in Group C behind Nigeria, Tunisia and their East African rivals Tanzania and leave the competition early.
Being taught by the former coach of Harambee StarsPaul Put, Uganda started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Tunisia before drawing 1-1 against Tanzania in their second game.
The game could have gone differently as the stars of CHAN 2024 Allan Okello would miss a last-minute penalty. Their last game ended in a 3-1 defeat against Nigeria on Tuesday evening in Fez.
The AFCON 2023 runners-up scored their first win seven minutes before the break through Paul Onuachu. Put replaced goalkeeper Denis Onyango and replaced Salim Magoola at the start of the second half, but Magoola was sent off shortly after handling the ball outside his area.
Nigeria capitalized on their numerical advantage with Raphael Onyedika scoring twice before Rogers Mato completed a successful transfer of the team for Uganda’s consolation.
How much will Uganda get from AFCON?
An early exit would sting, given that the Cranes would consider their qualification chances as one of the worst.
For their efforts, they are expected to be awarded with prizes from the large amount of prize money allocated by CAF.
Teams eliminated in the group stage, like Uganda, will each walk away with $500,000 (about KSh 64.5 million).
AFCON 2025 prize money
The overall winner of the January 18 final will receive $10 million (KSh 1.2 billion) after CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced a 43% increase for the 2025 edition.
The runners-up will get $4 million (KSh 516,000 million) while the two losers in the semi-finals will each get $2.5 million (KSh 322 million).

Round 16 will attract $800,000 (KSh 103 million). The teams that finish third and fourth in each group will walk away with $700,000 (90 million KSh).
How Tanzania qualified for the 16th round of AFCON
Meanwhile, Tanzania managed to enter the Round of 16 for the first time in their history as one of the losing teams.
Taifa Stars did so despite failing to win any of the three group stage games. They lost to Nigeria in the opening game before holding Uganda to a 1-1 draw. Their last game ended in another direct draw against Tunisia.
They will now face hosts Morocco on Sunday in Rabat for a place in the quarter-finals.
