The British-Nigerian boxer was among the passengers in a Lexus SUV that was involved in the accident, killing two people.
Where did the accident that happened to Anthony Joshua happen?
Joshua and his friends were traveling in Nigeria via the Lagos-Ibadan highway, which connects Ogun to the country’s commercial capital, Lagos.
Joshua escaped with minor injuries, but two of his friends died in the accident. The two have been identified as Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele by the authorities and Joshua’s team.
What caused Anthony Joshua’s accident?
Authorities have said that a preliminary investigation revealed that a Lexus SUV was speeding along the highway.
It lost control as it tried to pass a Danco gas station, before hitting a truck parked on the side of the road.
Joshua was sitting in the back of the car and was immediately evacuated for treatment.
Joshua’s promoters, Matchroom Boxing, have confirmed that he is in good shape.
“Matchroom Boxing and 258 BXG can confirm that Anthony sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. He is in good condition and will remain there for evaluation. Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of all those affected, and we ask that their privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”

The President of Nigeria makes a statement after the accident happened to AJ
Nigerian President Ahmed Bola Tinubu confirmed that he spoke with Joshua and offered his condolences to the friends he lost.
“I have spoken to AJ to offer my personal condolences due to the death of two of his close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, in a recent accident. I wished him a full and speedy recovery and prayed with him. AJ assured me that he is receiving the best services,” he said on his official X account.
“This great tragedy casts a long shadow this season. I sympathize with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this terrible event. As a sportsperson, you have shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.”
Anthony Joshua defeated Jake Paul
Joshua recently participated in his first match after more than a year out. He defeated Jake Paul, who turned into a YouTuber boxer, via a sixth-round knockout at the Kaseya Center in Florida.
Joshua, who hails from Ogun State, was in Nigeria on holiday ahead of a possible match next year.
