The Luhya elders want Jirongo to be buried with a burning torch and four porcupine spines in the coffin.
According to them, the torch will signal the persecution of those who plotted against Jirongo, and if it goes out, it will show that those who plotted the plot have also perished.
“The torch has a great meaning. We will use batteries that will light the torch, and when it goes out it will mean that those responsible for his death are fading away. Not only the torch, but also porcupine thorns. They will be placed at all four corners of the grave to check those who had a hand in the incident,” said Harun Opanda, an elder of Wanga, in an interview with NTV.
In addition to punishing the alleged plotters, the perpetrators will be identified.
Amos Wawire, an elder from the Bunyala community in Navakholo area, Kakamega County, said the conspirators will not tolerate the effects of the rituals and will start coming forward one by one to confess.
He revealed that for the torch ritual to work, it is enhanced with an ancient traditional medicine.
“If someone killed him, we will bury him with a torch; then we will perform a ritual with a special ancient medicine. We will recite it seven times, and the medicine will track down all those involved. Soon after, we will see them start to die, and then they will come out in public to confess,” said Wawire.
