1. The Standard

The Standard reported on the murder of a woman in Naivasha.

Police in Naivasha are detaining a 26-year-old doctor from the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital in connection with the murder of his 42-year-old girlfriend after a domestic dispute.

The paramedic surrendered to the authorities minutes after he was accused of killing the mother of two at Kabati Centre, following the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Emotions ran high as friends and relatives of Susan Wanjiru struggled to make sense of the tragedy that ruined a quiet Christmas weekend in the lakeside town.

His friend, Peter Kuria, said the couple had lived together for several months and often argued when they were drunk.

He added that, a few hours before the incident, they were drunk in a local bar before going back to Wanjiru’s house, where another fight started.

“The neighbors were awakened by the commotion, before they saw the woman lying on the ground in a pool of blood,” he told The Standard.

The DCIO of Naivasha, Isaac Kiama, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is expected to appear in the Naivasha Court today.

He said the suspect surrendered and confessed to killing his colleague after a domestic dispute.

“The woman had serious head injuries, and there is evidence that she was strangled. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death,” he said.

2. Nation Today

Taifa Leo reported on the President’s promise William Ruto for the ODM party as he strengthens his base preparing for the 2027 elections.

Ruto said his administration will consider the conditions pushed by ODM ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the party should prepare to be in the next government.

He gave confidence that his opponents, especially the leader of Wiper Kalonzo Musyokathey will not defeat him in the election.

The President said he has an agenda for the country and that his record of progress speaks for itself, that is why voters will choose him instead of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

He said this at Kadika Primary School, Migori, at the end of a football tournament sponsored by Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed.

Some ODM members have been setting conditions for Ruto before deciding whether they will support his candidate for a second term in power in 2027 or not.

Among the conditions are more ministerial positions.

Some ODM leaders have also been saying they want more talks with the president.

Ruto said he will not leave ODM behind in the 2027 elections.

“Be ready. I will prepare my team, and then we will meet and form a unity government. Don’t worry about our competitors because I know them well. If you don’t have a record of progress or you can’t explain to the people what you did for a long time in power, then forget about being the leader of Kenya,” he said.
