Kirinyaga: Sadness for a Relative Who Was Missing for 2 Days Found Dead Near the Family Store

Kirinyaga, Kenya: A family in the village of Matandara, Nyangati region, is engulfed in grief after a 48-year-old man, who had been missing for two days, was found dead outside the family’s shop.

According to Citizen Digital, Humphrey Mwai went missing on Monday, December 22, prompting friends and neighbors to start a search.

It was very sad when they found him dead.

Being visibly shaken by the death of his middle-aged son, Mwai’s father, identified as Danson Mute, said that the villagers who went to the shop found the body and raised the alarm, notifying the family and other villagers.

“It is very sad. We were looking for him in the hope that he would return home safely,” said the 85-year-old man.

The chief of Nyangati area, Immaculate Wanjiru Njoka, who arrived at the scene, was also shocked by the incident in the previously peaceful community.

He said residents informed him about the death shortly after the body was discovered. He added that the initial investigation showed that the victim may have suffered serious injuries, which caused fear in the community.

Why was the Nyangati community shocked?

“This is an unusual and shocking incident in our area. Security officials have already started an investigation,” said Chief Njoka.

Family members described Mwai as a diligent farmer, while his wife ran the shop where his body was found.

His brother-in-law, Samuel Kinyua, who is also the village administrator, said the family had prepared to celebrate Christmas together.

Neighbors Jackson Gicobi and Lawrence Kariuki urged the authorities to act quickly and bring those involved to justice.

The deceased’s 38-year-old husband and mother of two, Peter Adulu, shared their last photo before he left for Nakuru for graduation, and his body was found.

His friends and work colleagues in the Vihiga County Government respected him and remembered his contribution, his dedication to service and the positive impact he had in the community.
