NTSA reports show that Cyrus Jirongo did not own the Mercedes Benz that was hit by the Climax Bus

While detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) continue to search for answers about the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, new information shows that the car he was in was not registered in his name.

Was Cyrus Jirongo the owner of the Mercedes Benz he was driving?

The luxury car he was driving collided with the oncoming Climax Bus kiss at high speed with passengers from Nairobi.

The accident happened at Karai, a dangerous area on the Nairobi-Nakuru road.

According to DCIJirongo was driving a Mercedes Benz car, registration number KCZ 350C.

The details of the car as it is on the website of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) show that it is owned by Smart Cars Limited, an import company based in Nairobi.

However, although NTSA’s records do not show him as the direct owner of the vehicle, Jirongo had used it for some time.

The former member of parliament’s relationship with the car became public knowledge in December 2020 when he was exposed for causing an accident in Nairobi and injuring a boda boda driver.

Security cameras at the Eagol gas station they recorded the sequence of events until the accident happened.

The clip showed Jirongo’s car entering the station at 8:18:43 at night from the Nairobi side.

The car drove past the pump without stopping to refuel and got out, seemingly ready to head to Nairobi.

Later the car moved into the line of cars going in the opposite direction, appearing as an attempt to correct the correct direction.

However, a Climax bus that was traveling at high speed appeared at 8:19:25 at night and hit him badly.

When the bus hit the Mercedes Benz almost immediately, the minivan spun, as indicated by its brake lights, before being dragged about 25 meters from the collision site.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the car, and the lack of movement inside indicated that the passenger had died instantly.

The bus finally stopped about 50 meters away, and shortly after, a man approached Jirongo’s car.

Peter Kamau, one of the first responders, recalled running to the scene immediately after hearing the loud explosion.

He explained that he and nine others tried to save the driver, but the doors of the car were blocked, so they had to break it open using an ax to cut wood.

Kamau, a motorcycle mechanic from Karai, saw that the deceased was alone in the car and was standing on the gear with his face looking up.

He noted that accidents were common in the area, which is considered very dangerous, and that he ran outside after hearing the explosion since he lives a short distance from the highway.

He added that while helping them, they did not know the driver’s identity beforehand and were only trying to help, but to luck Unfortunately, the man was already dead, and they had to wait for the police officers to arrive.

Kamau, aged 21, also reported that inside the car they found an unfinished bottle of alcohol and a pack of cigarettes.

He explained how the bus passengers were tired and remained in the area for about ten minutes before another vehicle arrived to pick them up.

According to him, more than 40 passengers got off, some recording videos and taking pictures, while a traffic queue formed on the line that Jirongo would be using after rejoining the main road.
