President Ruto and his entourage arrived at Jirongo’s house in Gigiri, Nairobi, on Thursday afternoon, December 18.

He was welcomed by his three late wives and extended family in general.
The President wrote in a condolence book before speaking to the bereaved family.
“I comforted the family of my friend, the late Hon. Cyrus Jirongo, in their house in Gigiri, Nairobi County. May we be comforted by the word of the Lord in Psalm 46:1. ‘God is our refuge and our strength, a help almost always in times of trouble,’” said the President showing his photos taken in the house.

Earlier, the President had praised Jirongo as a determined leader, skilled entrepreneur, and politician whose influence has shaped Kenya’s political and economic landscape for decades.
He emphasized Jirongo’s generosity, his dedication to uplifting others, and their lasting friendship, noting his consistency in public and private life.
Ruto also described Jirongo as someone who never stops pursuing goals, an experienced businessman, and a strong politician who refused to be defeated by life’s challenges, adding that he was a fighter in every sense, while being responsible and friendly.
Jirongo began to emerge nationally in the early 1990s through the Youth for KANU ’92 movement, which he led in mobilizing support for the late Daniel Moi.
Jirongo served as Member of Parliament for Lugari for ten years between 1997 to 2002 and between 2007 to 2013.
He also served as a minister in the last year of the late Moi’s administration.
In 2013, Jirongo tried to run for president but failed. He tried again in the Kakamega constituency in 2022 but also failed.
