He shows no sign of turning back but seems ready to get back on track towards Nairobi.
Jirongo drives his car into the stream of oncoming cars, probably preparing to enter the right lane towards Nairobi.
However, the Climax bus does not give him time to enter another stream. At exactly 2:19:25, the bus is seen and it is clearly seen that it was being driven at high speed.
In a matter of seconds, the bus hits a Mercedes Benz, which appears to be spinning, evidenced by the flashing of the brake lights, and then dragged about 25 meters away from the impact area.
Smoke can be seen billowing from the luxury minivan, with no movement from the occupants, suggesting instant death.
The big passenger car stops 50 meters away from the accident site. A man is seen a short time later walking towards Jirongo’s car.
Peter Kamau, one of the first rescuers, said he rushed to the accident site immediately after hearing a loud bang.

He said that he along with nine others tried to rescue the Mercedes Benz driver, but the doors were stuck and they had to break them with an ax.
Kamau, a motorcycle mechanic from Karai, noted that the victim was alone in the car and was bent over the steering wheel, with his face turned upwards.
“We are used to responding to accidents because this area is a dangerous place. When I heard a loud bang, I immediately ran outside. I live a few meters away from the road. We did not know who the person was; we were just trying to help as first responders. Unfortunately, he was already dead, and we had to wait for the police officers to arrive,” Kamau told it Daily Nation.
The 21-year-old added that inside the car they found an unfinished bottle of alcohol and a pack of cigarettes.
He also explained how the bus passengers were shocked and remained at the scene for about ten minutes before another car arrived to pick them up.
“… they got off the bus and were transferred to another, then continued their journey. There were more than 40 passengers; some of them were recording videos and taking pictures. There was a traffic jam in the lane he had to use after entering the road,” he explained.

The traffic police later arrived in Karai, cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and eventually towed both vehicles to the police station.
There was no list of the items inside the car, with an officer later explaining that the registration of those items is left to the discretion of the first responder.
Meanwhile, at the Climax Coaches ground in Elementaita, Gilgil sub-county, activities continued as usual.
Buses continued to arrive to refuel and carry passengers, while travelers used nearby shops, hotels, and restrooms before continuing their journeys.
