“We had visited a hotel and were enjoying swimming. Osango was swimming with his mother, and they were enjoying a good relationship. At the time, he was wearing a life jacket.

After swimming, Osango said he was hungry and wanted something to eat. We decided to leave the pool and sit somewhere while we ordered food. We called the waiter and gave our orders,” he said.

Osango follows the waiter after ordering food

Osango decided to follow the waiter to the restaurant where the food would be taken before being taken to where the family was resting.

“When the waiter brought the food, Osango was not with him. He claimed Osango had left him behind while he was bringing the food. We called Osango, but he was not answering. We wondered where he was and started looking for him.

During the search, we saw a head in the deep end of the swimming pool. It was Osango. His mother ran to pull him out of the pool when he tried to revive him,” Mukanda continued.

Osango was rushed to the hospital by his mother.

They tried to compress his stomach so that he could vomit water, but they failed to provide first aid.

Osango’s mother immediately looked for a boda boda to rush her son to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“He had died a long time before we got to the hospital. We don’t know how he ended up in the water. We don’t know if he slipped or was thrown in by someone. There was no one who swam when we found him in the pool. No one bothered to help him; business was going on as usual as if nothing had happened. Even the management did not stop its activities to announce the tragedy. The music was still playing loudly, and it was business as usual.

It is not the first time a child has died in the pool, especially in December. Over the years, it has become a trend, and nothing is being done to the hotel. We are very hurt. Osango was the only child among my sister’s four children,” she revealed emotionally.

Osango’s mother falls into depression

Mukanda noted that since then, his sister has been depressed as the family continues to push for answers and justice for their little son.

They feel the hotel is trying to brush it off, even after involving the police and saying it on social media.

“We have made public what happened, hoping that at least something will be done. It is a difficult time for the family. When we found Osango, he did not have a life jacket,” he said.
