KPLC Releases List of Areas in 7 Counties Where It Will Cut Power for Maintenance Today

  • KPLC released a list of regions in various counties that are facing power outages for less than nine hours on Wednesday, December 17
  • The company explained the main reason why electricity should be interrupted in various regions across the country
  • Kenya Power expressed its regret for any inconvenience caused in the affected regions and urged residents in the affected areas to be careful with the plans

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a temporary power outage in various regions on Wednesday, December 17.

The power outage, which would last for less than nine hours, would affect Kenyans living in parts of Nandi, Nairobi, Embu, Makueni, Machakos, Poisonousand Mogori.

According to KPLCthe notice is in line with Rule 27 of the Electricity Laws which states the importance of disrupting the electricity supply to ‘facilitate the maintenance and improvement of power lines in the network, connect new customers, or change power lines during road construction.’

“Please accommodate areas scheduled for power maintenance on Wednesday, December 17. Any inconvenience caused is regrettable,” KPLC said.

Which areas will be without electricity on December 17?

Migori

Location: Macalder, Nyakweri, Muhuru Bay (From 9am to 5pm)

The entire town of Muhuru Bay, Tagache, Bande, Othoch Rakwom, Lwanda, parts of Sori, Osiri Gold Mine, Macalder Station, Okenge, Sibwoche, and Nyakweri.

Embu

Location: Joykim Hospital, Nthokis, Kamiu, Gk Prisons, Tenri Hospital (From 8:30 am to 4 pm)

Riva Petrol Station, Vieznina, Tenri Hospital, Gerish, NCPB, GK Prisons, Kamiu Catholic, Kamiu ACK, GTI Staff Sections, Iveche Sections, and Tenri TVET.

Machakos

Location: Sabaki (From 9 am to 12 pm)

Alpharama, Manipal, Old Mombasa Road, Ramroad, Athi 55, Athi Shops, Sabaki, Great Wall, Kenchic, and Coloho Mall.

Location: Mlolongo (From 9 am to 5 pm)

Ngwata Phase 3, Heavy Chain Bridge, KPLC Offices, Sapphire Business Park, Weighbridge Gardens, and Kathangaita.

Grow up

Location: Muooni River to Nziu (Emali Ex Sultan) (from 8.30am to 5pm)

Poisonous

Location: Ngege Beach, Marine School (From 8.30am to 4.30pm)

Location: Tembwo, Koimet (From 9am to 6pm)

Koimet Village, Tembwo Village, and Chebindara Village.

Nairobi

Location: Magadi Road Section, Karen (From 9am to 5pm)

Did Nyoro sell his Kenya Power shares?

Meanwhile, Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro partially sold his investment in Kenya Power by selling 3.08 million shares worth KSh 37.8 million in the six months to June 2025.

The sale reduced its stake in the utilities company from 30 million shares in December 2024 to 26.9 million shares by mid-2025.

Based on Kenya Power’s closing price of KSh 12 on December 4, 2025, the shares rose to KSh 322.8 million, reflecting a strong profit from the company’s new profit and increased dividend.
