Hidden camera footage at the Eagol Fuel Station in Naivasha has detailed the last moments of the late Cyrus Jirongo while he was at the station located along the Nairobi-Nakuru Road.

The pictures showed Jirongo driving his car into the station shortly before it collided with a passenger bus. The accident happened at dawn on Saturday, December 13.

The Mercedes-Benz that Jirongo was driving hit a Climax Coaches bus that was transporting 65 passengers from Nairobi to kiss.

According to the statement of DCI, “Preliminary investigation shows that the accident involved Mr. Jirongo’s car with registration number KCZ 305U and a passenger bus with number KCU 576A, owned by Climax Company Ltd.”

The DCI explained that Jirongo’s car collided with the bus a few minutes after 2:19 am.

The impact of the collision pushed Jirongo’s car about 25 meters away from the accident site, while the bus stopped about 50 meters away.

Detectives and forensic experts from the DCI headquarters in Nairobi arrived at the scene and collected important evidence, including CCTV images of the Eagol Fuel Station.

According to the photos, at 02:18:40 in the morning Jirongo entered the station from the Nairobi side and stopped without refueling.

By 02:19:10 he left and stopped near the exit gate, then at 02:19:19 he turned the car to the right heading towards Nairobi again.

A few seconds later, at 02:19:25, cameras caught showing a passenger bus colliding with his car.

Jirongo died on the spot after sustaining serious injuries; both legs and one arm were broken, and he had head injuries.

The DCI’s report was released a few days after his family demanded answers about how he found himself in Naivasha while he was seen in Nairobi earlier and was being waited for at his home in Gigiri.

The DCI said the investigation will continue until it is completed, including returning to the accident site and taking the testimony of the passengers of the Climax Coaches bus.

Regarding the people who were with Jirongo before his death, reports show that he was seen in Nairobi with a woman before he transported her to Naivasha.

The boda boda driver claimed to have seen his white car stop near the hotel at 1:30 in the morning, a woman got off before Jirongo continued towards Nairobi.

Police are trying to trace his movements from 11pm when he was last seen at Karen’s restaurant to 2am when the accident happened.

Witnesses explained that a driver saw Jirongo stopping the car on the side of the road as if he was relieving himself, while the journalist claimed to find female items such as earrings in the remains of the car.

A petrol station attendant, supported by CCTV evidence, said Jirongo turned the car at the pump without refueling and entered the road through the wrong lane.

Shortly after, he heard a loud crash and ran to the scene of the accident, where he found Jirongo bent over the steering wheel with head injuries.

The bus driver, Tirus Kamau, who was transporting 65 passengers to Busia, said he tried to avoid the collision but had no safe way to do so.

Meanwhile, Jirongo’s family announced that three coroners—one from the family, one from his clan, and a representative of the government—will conduct a joint autopsy to ensure transparency.
