According to the police, Jirongo was driving towards Nairobi from Nakuru when his Mercedes-Benz collided with a passenger bus that was heading to Busia from Nairobi.
But the crying family explains that their father was on his way to his home in Gigiri from Karen that night luck bad, something that contradicts the police narrative.
Why Cyrus Jirongo’s family questioned the police
Through their spokesperson, Fred Gumo, the family wanted answers on how Jirongo got to the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, while he had dropped Karen off to his home, which is not part of the road.
Gumo, who once served in parliament with Jirongo as an MP, said the family was worried about how their grandfather was driving to the accident site in the morning, a long distance from home, where it would have been appropriate to arrive earlier after 11 pm, considering the area where his body was still alive.
“Mr. Jirongo left Karen around five o’clock at night, heading home here (Gigiri), and he was found dead in Naivasha, heading from Naivasha towards Nairobi. That is something that the family is dealing with with great concern,” Gumo told reporters on Sunday, December 14.
Meanwhile, an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday or Tuesday at Lee Funeral Home Nairobi to determine how he lost his life.
The body was taken to Lee on Saturday morning from the Naivasha County Hospital mortuary, where it had been kept after being removed from the Karai accident site.
Cyrus Jirongo’s last moments
Meanwhile, former Vihiga senator, George Khaniri, noted that Jirongo spent time with his friends at Karen’s hotel for most of Friday, December 12, unaware of the disaster that lay ahead.
Among those who were with him was the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula. There, he talked to his friends about various issues, including planning the next day’s meetings, as Khaniri noted.
“As I entered, I saw Mr. Jirongo sitting with Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and two other men. We were supposed to have a lunch meeting on Saturday,” said Khaniri.
How Cyrus Jirongo got injured
Khaniri was among those who saw the fresh body from the scene. He revealed that the former Member of Parliament was so badly injured that he could not survive the accident.
“I saw two broken legs. His legs were broken at the waist, both of them. They were completely broken, and one arm was also broken. The face had bruises, not serious enough to cause death; two below the groin and one above the eye,” he explained.

Khaniri emphasized that Jirongo’s death cannot be ignored and the accident treated as a normal road accident, suggesting the possibility of a crime committed by unknown persons.
“That is a mystery that must be explained… Only the government can provide those answers. We as a family, community and country in general want answers,” he said.
The family want police to find out what happened, asking investigators to examine CCTV footage from the side of the road to recreate the deceased’s final moments. He should have traveled from Karen to his home in Gigiri, not Kakamega.
But now, he was found dead in Naivasha, on his way from Naivasha to Nairobi. The only people who can figure it out are the police.
“If they look at the camera, they should be able to explain, because there is a camera. They should be able to explain how he was able to travel that way and back,” said Gumo.
How Cyrus Jirongo met his tragic death
Initially, the driver of the bus involved in the accident narrated the events of the incident.
Tirus Kamau was at the helm of a Climax Coaches bus that transported 65 passengers to Western Kenya.

According to him, Jirongo was driving alone in his Mercedes-Benz towards Nairobi when, after leaving a gas station, he stepped on the wrong side of the road.
Kamau explained that the car of the former Lugari Member of Parliament seemed to avoid traffic before it suddenly overturned on the bus lane.
The 52-year-old driver added that although he tried to slow down, further overturning would have endangered his passengers, and there was no choice but to collide.
