A state of sadness was witnessed at Lee’s funeral as members of parliament looked at the body of their colleague

Meanwhile, colleagues of the deceased from the National Assembly joined family and friends at the Lee Funeral Home, Nairobi, where the body was laid to rest.

The process was led by the state’s chief psychiatrist, Johansen Oduor.

Touched by shock and grief, family and friends could not help but cry when they found out that their relatives had died.

When they saw his body, some of them were overcome with emotion, shedding tears as the heavy truth entered.

Member of Parliament for Kilifi North, Owen Baya, led a team of MPs who were there to witness the death investigation.

Hamisi died at the age of 56. He was a member of parliament appointed in the 13th parliament.

The deceased will be buried at his home in Kwale County.

The MP was seen in public after his sudden death on Saturday, December 6.

The Member of Parliament, who entered Parliament through the now defunct Amani National Congress (ANC), lost his life following injuries sustained in a car accident near his home in Karen.

How much education did Denar Hamisi have?

Hamisi was praised as a scholar and public servant, his work having academic merit and administrative skills.

He pursued higher education at the United States International University (USIU) and the University of Nairobi (UoN), obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management in 2000, followed by a Masters in International Business Administration in 2002.

He later studied law at the UoN, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 2006.

Professionally, Hamisi held several prominent positions: commissioner at the former Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007–2008), director at the Coastal Development Authority, and later director at the Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012).

He later served as the chief executive of the Kenya National Accreditation Services. His academic background also saw him contributing to university governance, being on the council of the University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Moi University (2021–2022).

In 2022, Hamisi joined parliament as an appointed member of parliament. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, in his tribute, described Hamisi’s career as a combination of intellectual discipline, public service and dedication to the law.

In parliament, he served on the Department of Sports and Culture Committee and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

Witness Mathew Owire reported that the lawmaker, who was driving alone, died on the spot after his white SUV lost direction, plunged into a ditch and collided with a tree.

Owire narrated that the lawmaker suffered severe head injuries and was bleeding profusely, leaving no chance of survival.

Onlookers, including Owire, managed to pull Hamisi’s body from the wreckage before the police arrived to secure the scene.

The car, which sustained extensive damage to its front, was later towed to a nearby police station.

Owire explained that when he got to the scene of the accident, Hamisi was already unconscious, his head stuck in the car door, which could not be opened.

He asked for help from others nearby, and by the time the police officers arrived, the body had already been removed, and the authorities took charge of the situation.
