Nairobi – The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a statement following the fatal accident that occurred on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

On Sunday, December 7, a public service vehicle owned by Kinatwa Shuttle Sacco collided with a commercial trailer, killing seven people and injuring 11 others.
What action has NTSA taken after the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway accident?
While confirming that the accident left several people dead, NTSA sent its condolences to the families of the victims of the accident.
The authority announced that it has sent inspectors and road safety inspectors to the scene of the fatal accident to conduct a detailed analysis and begin an investigation into the cause.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends, and we wish those receiving treatment a full and speedy recovery. We have immediately sent a team of inspectors and road safety inspectors to the scene of the accident to conduct a thorough analysis,” NTSA said.
Does Kinatwa Sacco cooperate with NTSA?
The authority added that Kinatwa Sacco, whose car was involved in the accident, is cooperating fully with the relevant agencies.
“Kinatwa Sacco is cooperating fully with the Authority and all relevant agencies while a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing,” the authority said.
NTSA called on all drivers of public services, commercial and private vehicles to be very careful on the road and obey traffic laws.
“We call on all drivers of public services, businesses and private vehicles to be extremely careful on our roads. Drive safely by observing speed limits, pass responsibly, rest when tired, and be fully alert at all times. Let us all commit to safer driving now and throughout the festive season to prevent more deaths. We remain steadfast in our commitment to high standards of road safety, especially this holiday season,” the authority said.

The Kenya Motorists Association (MAK) confirmed that the accident involved three of Kinatwa Sacco Shuttle.
MAK blamed the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) for its reluctance to upgrade the busy highway to a dual carriageway.
According to witnesses, the Kinatwa matatu was heading towards Mombasa and was passing other vehicles before colliding with the truck.

On Friday, December 5, another road accident left families in mourning and raised new concerns about road safety along the Bumala-Port Victoria route.
According to authorities, the matatu was traveling from Bumala town to Port Victoria when it suddenly veered off the road and rolled several times, killing four people.
Initial reports indicate that the car may have had a flat front tire, a mechanical fault that may have caused the driver to lose control.
