News of the death of the Mayienga FM station chief was announced on Sunday morning, December 7.

“Mayienga FM mourns the station manager, Festus Amimo. It is with great shock, great sadness, and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely death of our station manager, Festus Amimo WA,” Mayienga FM announced.

1. Raymond Omollo

Home Secretary Raymond Omollo has written an emotional tribute to Amimo.

Omollo described Amimo as a cheerful person and a true friend who touched the lives of many people.

I am deeply saddened by the death of my friend, Festus Amimo.

“Festus was a warm, calm person and a true friend whose kindness and humility touched everyone around him. Until his death, he served with great dedication as Head of KBC Dholuo – Mayienga Radio and Chairman of the Luo Journalists Association, where his leadership and passion for storytelling created many voices and strengthened the profession.

As we mourn him, I remember his family, friends and all who loved him. May we find comfort in the memories we shared and the legacy he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Amimo,” the Secretary General wrote.

2. James Orengo

Governor of Siaya, James Orengohas described the deceased radio presenter as a calm and quiet person.

Orengo said Amimo’s shows were unique because he always respected his guests.

“Deeply saddened by the death of Festus Amimo of Mayienga Radio. A calm, collected, and truly talented soul whose loss is a huge blow to the entire media community. Your voice and spirit will be sorely missed,” Orengo wrote.

3. David Osiany

David Osiany struggled to believe that Amimo was no more.

He praised Amimo’s vision to transform the Luo community through his platform, Mayienga FM.

“Let’s be a little careful here. No, you can’t be dead my brother. You stay in touch and then disappear without saying goodbye!!! What will happen to the dream of building a better Nyanza that you loved? My heart is broken for your loss, Festus Amimo. As the Head of Mayienga FM, you did a great job trying to unite the Luo nation behind good ideas and finding leaders from various sectors to engage the community in many issues that concern their daily lives.

In your death, I have lost a close friend, but the Luo nation and the media fraternity of Kenya are poorer today, because they have lost a brilliant journalist who understood that he had one job to impact lives using his talent and his platform,” Osiany wrote.

4. Mark Nyamita

Uriri Member of Parliament, Mark Nyamita, also wrote a message of condolence to the deceased broadcaster.

“I am waking up to the tragic death of my best friend Festus Amimo…I am so heartbroken! How can life be so hard? Keep up the good work, my brother, Jakom,” Nyamita wrote.

5. Victor Otieno Juma

Victor Otieno Juma of Ramogi FM also mourned his dead friend, recalling the call he received at 3 am about Amimo’s death.

“Black Sunday again. Brother why now? A strange call rang at 3am, Early Sunday Morning. Rest well Festus Amimo,” Juma wrote.
