Constable Ramadhan Mattanka’s family is still struggling to come to terms with his tragic death in the line of duty.
On Monday, October 13, he reported to work as usual, unaware of the tragedy that awaited him. While he was leading Gate D of the Nairobi Palace with his colleagues, he was confronted by a man with a bow and arrows, who was later identified as 56-year-old Kinyuka Kimunyi.
Following the incident, the family of Mzee Hassan Dabie remembered their last moments with Mattanka, who was his only child.
The grieving father explained that they had held a prayer session together before wishing him well as he left for work, but tragedy would strike later that day, robbing them of their son.
Authorities are investigating whether there was any previous relationship between Mattanka and the attacker, or with other officers on duty, due to the sensitive nature of the area.
Surveillance footage showed Mattanka collapsing in pain as colleagues rushed to help him, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The family, according to Islamic tradition, intended to bury him before sunset on Monday. However, the police asked for an adjournment to facilitate the post-mortem scheduled for the next day.

Investigators are looking into whether there may have been a previous relationship between the two men, with rumors pointing to a possible dispute or unresolved dispute as the cause of the attack.
Surveillance footage captured Kimunyi approaching Gate D and engaging Constable Mattanka in a lengthy conversation before suddenly launching the attack while other officers were distracted by a vehicle inspection.
Mattanka fell to the ground in excruciating pain and, despite being rushed to hospital, died from his injuries.
