How Denar Hamisi met his tragic death
Witness Mathew Owire reported that the lawmaker, who was alone in the car, died on the spot.
The white SUV reportedly lost control, went off the road into a ditch, and hit a tree.
Owire explained that the lawmaker could not survive due to the severity of the accident, sustaining severe head injuries and bleeding profusely.
He and other bystanders removed the body from the wreckage before police arrived to secure the scene and leave with the body.
The car, which sustained extensive front-end damage, was later towed to the police station.
“I went there and found him unconscious with blood pouring out. We could not talk to him. I asked my colleagues to come and help him out of the car. His head was stuck in the door; it could not open. We thought of informing the police to come and help. The officers arrived after we had already removed the body from the car, and they took the matter from there,” said Owire.
Hamisi was sponsored for the 13th parliament by the now defunct Amani National Congress (ANC), which at the time was led by the Prime Minister Stay Mudavadi.
How Speaker Wetang’ula praised the deceased
Wetang’ula praised Hamisi as a dedicated member of parliament who always prioritized the interests of Parliament and ordinary citizens.
He highlighted Hamisi’s hard work in the Department of Sports and Culture Committee as well as the Select Committee on National Parity and Equal Opportunities.
The Speaker offered his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues, noting that Hamisi will be remembered for his humility and unwavering commitment to public service.
He described the death of the MP as a great loss for the Parliament and the nation.
Wetang’ula further announced that the Parliament will cooperate with the family in preparing the funeral of the MP, while the parliamentary team is led by the Member of Parliament for Kilifi North and the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya.

Mudavadi joined in the mourning, portraying Hamisi as a principled and courageous leader.
He described Hamisi as diligent, honest, and fanatical, noting that his open character and ability to inspire others earned him respect across the political divide.
Mudavadi offered his condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and parliamentary colleagues, recognizing the difficult time for all.
Hamisi’s death came just weeks after that of Isiolo South Member of Parliament, Mohamed Bidu, who died at Nairobi Hospital on November 12 while receiving treatment for a long-term illness.
Bidu, a prominent voice in Kenyan politics, was previously the inaugural speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly.
The two MPs add to the list of leaders who went missing during the 13th Parliament, among them Ong’ondo Were, the former MP for Kasipul who was shot and killed in Nairobi in April; Member of Parliament for Malava, Malulu Injendi, who died of illness in a Nairobi hospital; and Kulow Maalim Hassan of Banissa, who died in a fatal road accident in 2023.
