Bilal Wanjau and Kimani Mbugua’s interview emerges after the actor’s death

Journalist Kimani Mbugua, who worked with leading media outlets, died on October 15, a few months after returning to a mental health treatment program due to his mental health challenges.

Mbugua had previously revealed that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and sought treatment after sharing his challenges publicly.

The former governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonkowho helped him get treatment, confirmed the sad news.

After Bilal’s death on Thursday, December 4, a video of the two in the studio resurfaced.

In 2019, when Kimani worked with Citizen TV invited Bilal for an interview on the show Day Break.

Kimani was wearing a formal suit, while Bilal was dressed casually, running the show on behalf of Willis Raburuwho was sick at the time.

“I know you haven’t known that I know you. You are a good actor. I started seeing you in 2010. How are you doing?” asked Kimani.

Bilal introduced himself and said that his success came in 2009 when he participated in an advertisement for Utahama Lini, which showed a young man whose mother wanted him to leave his home.

Bilal said that his first performance was on the show Wash and Setwhere he was required to do a five-second celebration for the goal.

“The lighting guy saw me, said he liked my shows, got my number. From there, I got other jobs.”

Kimani revealed that when Bilal was in school, he used the book Separation and Kido Kisimani performing at his school.

“It’s a good platform for an actor to grow. When people ask for opportunities, I suggest they act on set books. Many actors have gone through that.”

Bilal explained that acting out books is a challenge as the actors must follow the exact words of the text.

Kimani complimented Bilal on his performance, wondering how long it would take to remember all the lines.

“I took it for the show on Wednesday, and it was broadcast on Friday. I found out that I had seven scenes and a monologue. I got my lines and did the show without a problem,” Bilal said.

Elsewhere, a video emerged showing Sandra Dacha and Bilal talking at a weight loss clinic, where Bilal, dressed casually with a cane, seemed to burst into laughter while being injected.

Dacha invited him to the program and encouraged other men to watch their words when it comes to nutrition.

In the comments, Kenyans wished Bilal well in his journey and congratulated Sandra for her visible transformation.
