Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, December 2, Cherargei accused the Sakaja administration of simplifying the health sector.
Has Johnson Sakaja failed to implement?
In particular, Cherargei expressed his displeasure with the revelation that Pumwani Maternity Hospital does not have a functioning ICU.
“This issue of Pumwani not having a functioning ICU is a shame. It seems that nothing is working in the Nairobi City Council,” Cherargei said.
The Democratic Unionist (UDA) senator challenged members of the Nairobi County Assembly to re-present the motion to remove Sakaja.
Cherargei reminded the Nairobi House of Representatives that the governor had been given 60 days under the agreement brokered by the late former prime minister Raila Odinga fix the issues affecting the county, which he said Sakaja has failed to do.
“I want to challenge the Nairobi MCAs. When they met with the former prime minister, they said in 60 days, the governor would solve some of these problems. Just think, Pumwani does not have a functioning ICU. It is one of the biggest centers in this town, in this city. Governor Sakaja has failed to deliver. I want to challenge the members of the County Assembly, the MCAs, to take action. The 60 days are over,” he said.
Should Johnson Sakaja be dropped?
The Nandi senator complained that counties, including Nairobi, have failed to address health care systems despite it being a basic human right.
“Health under Article 43 is a human right. It is a basic human right. Even in Garissa County Referral Hospital, in Nandi Referral Hospital, Nairobi, it seems like everything is not working,” the senator said.
According to the Nandi senator, many important services in Nairobi, including waste collection, need urgent reform.

Cherargei said that for Nairobi to be reformed, MCAs should quickly remove Sakaja for allegedly failing in his mandate. “From roads to hospitals to waste collection, nothing is working. MCA of Nairobi, I want to challenge you. The debate is in your court. 60 days are over. We are ready to do what is necessary and fix Nairobi once and for all to challenge Governor Sakaja’s government, which is not working,” he said.

Why did the senators reject the request to remove Governor Nyaribo from power?
In other news, the Senate rejected the request of members of the Nyamira County Assembly to remove Governor Amos Nyaribo from power for the third time.
The upper house on Wednesday, December 3, accepted the initial objection raised by the defense of the governor, which said that his removal from power by the County Assembly was unconstitutional.
Nyaribo’s side said that the threshold to remove him from power was not reached, as only 19 members of parliament were present to approve the motion despite indications that 23 MCAs uprooted the governor.
Thirty-eight senators voted in favor of the objection raised by the governor’s legal team, while four opposed.
