Mercy Nyamoita Mong’are, a mother from Kisii, is still saddened by the loss of her first child, Kyle, who was allegedly poisoned by her relative.

Speaking to TUKO.co.keNyamoita explained that she was happily married to a man she met in school.

Their two-year marriage was full of happiness and love, as she had built a strong bond with her husband’s family.

Before long, their happiness expanded further when she became pregnant with their first child. However, they never imagined that their lives would take a new tragic turn a few months later.

“We never quarreled with my mother-in-law; everything was fine until my son died. After that, nothing was fine,” Nyamoita said, her voice heavy with sadness.

Why did Mercy Nyamoita leave her son and sister?

The 28-year-old mother explained that her son has always been a healthy child.

At the end of the week before he fell ill, he showed no signs of illness and appeared to be completely healthy.

“During the six months he was alive, my child never got very sick. Maybe just the flu here and there, but I would give him syrup, and he would be fine. But then, one day, he suddenly got very sick, and that’s how I lost him,” she recalled.

Nyamoita said she followed her usual morning routine: prepare her baby’s food, bathe her, and feed her before heading to work.

Her sister would take care of Kyle while she worked at her electronics store, and she would pick him up at 4pm when she finished her shift.

However, that day after arriving at work, Nyamoita received a call from his sister an hour later, telling her that the child was sick.

“He said my child started to feel bad after my mother-in-law held him. He started crying, and he couldn’t stop. It seemed strange,” Nyamoita explained.

At first dismissing it as an emergency, he turned his attention back to work. But a second call from her husband soon followed, informing her that their son was still sick.

The heartbroken mother left work, hoping the illness was not serious, and ran home to check on Kyle.

Nyamoita was shocked when he saw his son; it wasn’t the child he left that morning. Kyle looked very dehydrated, his eyes sunken, and his body weak.

In panic, she immediately called her husband to inform him about the condition of their child.

“He told me he was away and he was going to call his mother to check on the baby. Then my mother-in-law came to assess the situation and suggested we give Kyle some traditional medicine,” she recalled.

However, being in the health sector, Nyamoita refused to follow that advice. Instead, he took Kyle to a private hospital, where he was admitted for three days.

For a while, it looked like Kyle was on the mend, and he was about to be allowed to go home. But suddenly he started shaking.

The attending physician recommended that Kyle be referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital for further examination and special attention. When he arrived at the emergency department, Kyle was vomiting blood.

Was Kyle poisoned?

“My child was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), and the doctors did tests on him. They found that his kidneys were not working and he needed dialysis,” Nyamoita said, struggling to hold back tears.

She recounted how quickly everything went wrong, and shortly after, she was told that Kyle had passed away.

Doctors informed her that her son had ingested poison, which caused his organs to fail.

“According to the doctors, someone made her lick something that stuck in her throat, that’s why she couldn’t breastfeed. It burned her esophagus,” he said while choking on his words.

What Happened at Baby Kyle’s Funeral

Tragedy continued even in death. Nyamoita recalled how on the day they were taking Kyle’s body home, the hearse refused to leave as they approached the house. I

it just moved when his mother-in-law got out of the car. In the funeral, it is said that the coffin fell on its side while being lowered into the grave.

Nyamoita believes that these strange events were a sign that her son’s killer was there.

“When the time came to throw dirt in the grave, I did it, and so did my sisters and my colleagues. But my mother-in-law and my husband did not participate. In Kisii culture, that would bring disaster,” he explained.
