After returning to the Senate for the ticket UDA in 2022, Khalwale was appointed as the head of the party with a large number of MPs.

He will no longer hold that position.

In a session on Tuesday afternoon, December 2, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi contacted the parliament about receiving a resolution from the majority that decided to remove Khalwale.

Kingi announced that Senator David Wakoli of Bungoma will be the new president.

Wakoli was elected through Ford Kenya, a partner party in the alliance Kenya Firstto replace the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.

Khalwale has been facing the top leaders of the UDA party, due to his hostile politics when he holds the post.

He seemed to deviate from the government’s agenda to play as the opponents of the President William Ruto.

Previously a staunch supporter of Ruto, Khalwale was a critic of the president, often referring to him in an opposition-like tone.

His biggest rejection of his UDA party was his decision to support the Union Opposition candidate in the Malava parliamentary by-election despite his party nominating the candidate.

Khalwale camped in Malava for several weeks promoting Seth Panyako of DAP-Kenya, and disappointed the public there to elect David Ndakwa of the UDA Party.

However, the UDA candidate won.
