Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has been linked to a South African club yet again after a top flight side sacked their coach at the weekend.
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy is being linked to another job back home in South Africa following the sacking of a highly experienced tactician.
McCarthy, who has previously been linked to his ex-club Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and even the national team Bafana Bafana, is contracted to Kenya until 2027 but that has not stopped the speculation about his future.
The latest is newly-promoted South African club Durban City, who parted ways with veteran coach Gavin Hunt on Monday, and are now looking for a new man in the dugout.

Gavin Hunt Had a Decent Stint at Durban City
Hunt, one of the most experienced and successful South African coaches, was sent packing following a 2-0 loss to Pirates at the weekend although his departure is said not to be related to results but a frosty relationship with club bosses given he has left the team in a commendable eighth position in the 16-team Premier Soccer League (PSL).
With the club beginning the process of finding a replacement, McCarthy’s name is among those being mentioned with some fans urging them to consider the Harambee Stars boss.
“Are you guys appointing Benni McCarthy, Clinton Larsen, Ernst Middendorp, Muhsin Ertugral, Dan Malesela or Brandon Truter!?” a fan posed when reacting to news of Hunt’s sacking.
“He [Benni McCarthy] must come back and coach Durban City FC,” another fan commented.
Benni McCarthy Unlikely to Take the Job
“Son of the soil must come back fast, there is a vacancy at Durban City FC,” was the advice to McCarthy from a fan.
“He took AmaZulu from relegation to CAF champions League. Coached Man United. Tell me of anyone else with such skill, I’ll wait,” was the other assessment of McCarthy’s work by another supporter.
McCarthy is highly regarded in South Arica for the work he did at Cape Town City and AmaZulu, winning a trophy with the former, and guiding the latter to a record second place in the league and qualification to the CAF Champions League, where they reached the group stages, a first one in their history.
He is, however, unlikely to take up a role at what is considered a smaller team in South Africa as he has already expressed a desire to coach one of the African giants or a team in Europe and the United States.
