Beryl Achieng’: Odinga’s Family Announces Burial Date for Late Sister

The family of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga has announced the funeral date of their sister, Beryl Achieng’, who died while undergoing cancer treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Achieng’ died on November 25, just a few weeks after the funeral of the former national leader. His body was taken to Lee Funeral Home for the necessary rites before his burial.

Achieng’ left behind three children: Ami Auma Ambala-Hallam, Chizi Ambala, and Taurai Ernest Raila Mungwari. She was the mother-in-law of Brian Hallam and Brenda Achieng’.

When will Beryl Achieng’ be buried?

Raila Odinga Junior, the son of the late former ODM leader, announced that Achieng’ will be buried on Saturday, December 6, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in BondoSiaya.

“The funeral will take place in Kango Ka Jaramogi on Saturday, December 6, 2025,” Junior confirmed.

Junior assisted in selecting the burial site, which was chosen due to its historical significance to the family.

She was remembered as a strong, wise, and calm woman.

The fundraising event will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at the United Kenya Club (UKC) from 5pm.

This will be followed by a memorial service, which will be held at the Consolata Shrine, Westlands, on Wednesday, December 3, at 3 p.m.

What positions did Beryl have?

Before his death, Achieng’ was an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and held high positions in Zimbabwe and Kenya, including being the first African town clerk in independent Zimbabwe.

He was also a lecturer at the Kenya School of Law and had served as chairman of Athi Water, vice chairman of Nairobi Water and Wastewater since 2020, and chairman of the Kenya Railways Pension Scheme, among others.

Achieng’ was also a mathematician.

How did Ruto and his family mourn Beryl Achieng?

Meanwhile, the President William Ruto wrote a touching tribute to the late Achieng’ while recounting his contributions to the development of the country.

He described her as a scholar and a pioneer woman who opened doors and enlightened many professional women.

The President noted that he not only promoted urban development and public service but also encouraged many young women to pursue careers in fields that were previously dominated by men.

‘Raila’s grandson,’ Furaha, noted that he was tired of mourning the death of two of his loved ones.

While at the Lee Funeral Home, Senator Oburu Oginga was also moved to tears when he looked at the body of his late sister.
