Wanga was very clear in his position, saying that such people have no place in his government.
What did Wanga say?
The Governor of Homa Bay made these statements on Friday, November 28, during the funeral of an educationist, Mama Beliah Auma Ogaga, in Otaro, Homa Bay Town East, where he spoke openly about honesty, discipline, and gaps emerging within his government.

Wanga did not name his deputy directly, but his words carried a clear warning as he insisted that whoever enjoys service in the Homa Bay county government must show dedication and respect to that administration.
According to the governor, anyone who feels dissatisfied with his administration should resign and swear in those who are willing to work with him.
“When I appoint someone to work in the Homa Bay county government, he must work hard in that government. But the day they feel that the government is bad, they cannot work in it, they should resign and leave so that someone else can take that position. That’s how things are done. Or don’t we have people from Kanyada who are ready to work?” Wanga said.
His message came at a tense time for the county, following the political storm caused by his deputy, Oyugi Magwanga.
This is after he openly supported an independent candidate in the Kasipul by-election, which angered the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) structures.
The results are widespread, contributing to a growing perception of division within the county’s top leadership.
Wanga’s warning to dishonest county employees
Remembering his challenges, Wanga reminded residents of his great efforts to get the governor’s seat, noting that he will not tolerate people who work in his government while they claim to weaken the administration.
“The other day, I offered a job opportunity to the people of Kanyada and only the people of Kanyada who wanted a job will complete the job. One cannot work in your government and at the same time speak badly of that government, because getting a position or power is difficult. I have worked hard and walked a lot to become the governor of Homa Bay,” he said.
The governor expressed his confidence in defending the seat again in the 2027 General Election, saying that he is ready to compete with whoever opposes his nomination for the second term.
He explained that the criticism of his leadership stems from being a woman, noting that despite doing a better job than the previous administration, his efforts are not acceptable.
Wanga showed a sign of strengthening internal discipline in his administration and clearly announced that employees who are alleged to have received bribes or delayed their work will be replaced.
“It is for that reason that I also decided to be careful with anyone who does not want to work, let them leave. You give the job to someone who wants to work for the people. Anyone who likes to walk around accepting bribes is out. The person who is ready to work for the people and get paid his fixed salary, is in.” he warned.

Are there plans to remove Magwanga from office?
As previously reported, tensions rose in Wanga’s administration after Magwanga openly campaigned for Philip Aroko, an independent candidate, in the Kasipul by-election on November 27.
Aroko finished second behind ODM’s Boyd Were, steps which angered ODM officialswho accused Magwanga of being a traitor.
The first open call to remove his protection came from Sinod Okello, the ODM Secretary for Homa Bay Sub-County.
Okello criticized Magwanga for disloyalty to the party, stressing that working with someone whose political ideology now seems to be moving away from the party will cause conflicts within the county government.
He said the actions of the deputy governor “gave a bad image” about the unity of the county and warned that such behavior could cause major conflicts as the 2027 General Election approaches.
According to him, Magwanga would have resigned peacefully to follow an independent political path instead of holding a position under ODM while supporting outsiders.
