Kasipul by-election: Boyd Were Ambwaga Philip Aroko In The Parliamentary Race

The race, which attracted the close attention of the people of the area, and tried to control the ODM dictatorship, ended with Were getting a big victory in a landslide.

According to the official results announced by the counting officer of IEBC Kasipul, Rebecca Abwakhu, Were got 16,819 votes.

His main rival, Philip Aroko, who ran as an independent candidate, came a distant second with 8,476 votes.

“Aroko Philip Nashon 8,476, Ong’ondo Boyd Were, 16,819. The elected Member of Parliament is Mr. Ong’ondo Boyd Were,” Abwakhu announced.

The announcement of the counting officer was received with great joy at Agoro Sare High School, which was used as the state’s vote counting centre.

Boyd joined the celebrations attended by the governor of Homa Bay, Gladys Wangaand Member of Parliament for Homa Bay Town, Peter Kaluma, who was injured while voting.

The wide margin of votes reaffirmed ODM’s strong hold in the state and demonstrated the party’s success in mobilizing its supporters despite tense and highly competitive campaigns.

Boyd, speaking shortly after receiving his certificate, thanked the residents.

He emphasized that the victory is not only a personal success but a sign of the responsibility he is ready to bear.

Boyd, who succeeds his late father, noted that now is the time to dedicate himself to serving the residents of Kasipul.

“First of all, I want to thank the residents of Kasipul for trusting me. I am happy for the role of leading the residents of Kasipul. I also want to thank our party, ODM, as well as our party chairman Gladys Wanga for believing in the leadership of the youth. The residents of Kasipul have done their part. Now all that is left is for me to serve them diligently. Thank you very much,” Boyd said in his first speech.

Philip Aroko admits he has failed

Philip Aroko, an independent candidate, conceded honorable defeat after ODM’s Boyd Were was declared the winner of the Kasipul by-election.

In a calm and heartfelt message, Aroko thanked, reflected, and showed hope, recognizing the role of the community in his campaign and asking them to stay united for future efforts.

He expressed the possibility of contesting for the seat again, insisting that obstacles do not stop the ambition.

Aroko’s acceptance of defeat silenced serious confrontations with respect, while he kept a clear political position and thanked the residents for their support.

“To my voters and supporters in Kasipul and all over the country, I express my sincere gratitude and love for sticking with me till the end,” he said.
