The newspapers also reported on the President’s response William Ruto for the controversial remarks of his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni.

1. The Standard

President William Ruto dismissed reports that a war could break out between Kenya and Uganda due to the use of the Indian Ocean.

Speaking in Tororo on Sunday, November 23, Ruto downplayed the controversial statements made by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.

The President blamed the media for misinterpreting Museveni’s statements about future wars related to access to the sea.

Ruto said that Kenya and Uganda are brothers, and these two countries do not have time to interact in a negative way.

“I know people in the journalist industry, and it is good for me to speak here, they tried to create an image that Uganda said something about needing access to the sea by all means. I promise those who oppose me that Uganda and Kenya are brothers, and we don’t have time to interact in a negative way,” said Ruto.

The magazine reported on the intensifying campaigns in various parts of the country ahead of the November 27 by-elections.

As the race for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat tightens, the former vice president, Rigathi Gachaguashowed how the results of the by-election could weaken some of President William Ruto’s supporters from the area.

Gachagua said that the Vice President Kithur Kindiki he may be the main casualty of the by-election, given that Ruto may remove his cabinet.

“President Ruto intends to use the results of the by-election as a reason to remove the cabinet and restructure it. It is possible that we will have a new Vice President and new faces in the cabinet in January 2026,” Gachagua said.

According to Gachagua, the biggest threat to Kindiki are senior leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). The leader of ODM, Oburu Oginga, announced that the party is aiming for the position of vice president in the 2027 election.

“If I were to advise Kindiki, his biggest problem is not Mount Kenya. Not even me. His biggest threat is those ODM people who want Ruto to join ODM, ready to give him the position of president or his vice-host. You know very well which seat Ruto will find easier to hand over. Those who focus on benefiting from the possibility of a new arrangement of government power are only telling him what he wants to hear. But the problem is that they were all defeated by Ruto in this by-election,” he said.

The Kiswahili magazine emphasized the violence reported in various parts of the country in the by-election campaigns.

In Bungoma county, one person died after violence broke out at a campaign meeting organized by Trans Nzoia governor, George Natembeya.

Natembeya was campaigning for independent candidate Eric Wekesa in Kabuchai when terrorists invaded his meeting.

In Machakos county, the convoy of Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, Mwengi Mutuse, was attacked by terrorists while campaigning in Mumbai North.

In a statement, Mutuse blamed the Wiper party for hiring terrorists to block his campaign in the area.

“Earlier today, near Mung’ala AIC, people known as WIPER threw stones at our audio van, damaged it and stole part of the audio equipment. The people who committed this crime and electoral violation are known, they were seen doing the act and were recorded on video while doing it. This information has been reported at the Machakos Police Station,” Mutuse said.

4. The Star

The newspaper reported on Sunday, November 23, about an accident involving a matatu with 43 passengers and a trailer in Kyumbi junction, Machakos county.

Three people died on the spot, and several others were injured after the matatu collided with a construction truck.

Athi River North OCPD, Anderson Mbai, said among the dead was the driver of a matatu, which was traveling from Nairobi to Kathiani constituency.

He added that 37 passengers of the matatu and those in the trailer were injured and rushed to Machakos Hospital Level 5 for treatment.
