Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has openly opposed what he sees as the political administration of Gachagua in Mount Kenya.
For a long time, Rigathi Gachaguahas beat himself up as a fundamentalist leader of the region, often criticizing politicians who differ from him.
He used his attempted ouster last year as a political platform, rallying support in Mount Kenya and repeatedly pointing out that his removal was a betrayal of the President. William Ruto for that area.
Does Gachagua mean Mount Kenya?
Boldly, a few months later, Kindiki came out publicly to say that Gachagua is too young politically to be a regional leader.
While in Mbeere North on Wednesday, November 19, Kindiki explained that no one from Mount Kenya chose Gachagua to represent him.
“I have never talked about this; this is a matter of people announcing themselves as leaders of Mount Kenya, who chose you to represent them?” he questioned.
Wanting to maintain his authority as a leader and as a native of the area, Kindiki declared himself the highest political leader of Mt Kenya as he is the Deputy President of the country.
He emphasized that a leader who was once in power but was later removed cannot claim to represent the region.
According to Kindiki, being second in power is more powerful and trustworthy, making him the true leader of Mount Kenya.
“I am helping the President to lead the country, and contribute to development in all 47 counties. But when I am here, I am the highest political leader in Mt. Kenya without a doubt. I am in the government, and you are outside, so come and tell us that you are the authority here, how?” Kindiki asked Gachagua.
Kindiki gave these words while campaigning in Mbeere North, gathering support for the candidate of UDA in the November 27 by-election.
However, the results of the by-election will determine who between Kindiki and Gachagua is the lion in Mount Kenya.
Gachagua has been campaigning in the area on behalf of the Opposition candidate supported by the DP party.
Does Kindiki have the same political influence as Gachagua?
Lawyer and political analyst, Mokaya Otieno, says that Kindiki cannot be ignored in Mount Kenya politics, even because Gachagua is famous.
With power comes influence, and that is its essential power.
While others may reject him, Mokaya says that the office of the Deputy President has strengthened Kindiki and made him a national leader, making him equal to Gachagua to a large extent.
He added that the by-elections will give the political picture of 2027, being a measure of what lies ahead.
According to the lawyer, the victory of Gachagua’s side will be a strong statement for President William Ruto, confirming that Gachagua has proven his influence in Mount Kenya.
But if the UDA candidate wins, it will be a warning to Gachagua, forcing him to repeat his strategies after months of showing himself as a great leader.
On the contrary, the loss of the opposition candidate would put Kindiki ahead in Mount Kenya politics and strengthen his political power before 2027.
“All small elections are like national elections. For each political party, this will be the measure of their influence and their chances until 2027. But this has been the spirit and purpose of all elections. We always choose, not people, but parties. We have always used power to change our lives to prove points, to resolve differences that have nothing to do with us as voters. Kindiki is the Vice President of this country; the second in power is not a person you can ignore. He is strong now, and he will continue to be strong,” he said.
Has Kindiki warned Gachagua?
At that time, the Deputy President mentioned his founder by threatening those he failed with. He criticized him for promoting the politics of hatred, division and tribalism.
According to Kindiki, Gachagua is not in the best position to lead the region due to his apparent impatience.
Gachagua had claimed that no foreigner would be allowed in Mbeere North, promising to campaign there to protect the votes of the opposition candidate.
