The arrest came after he was found issuing fake entry letters to unsuspecting Kenyans seeking military recruitment.
Joshua Mutwii Maingi, a middle-aged man, was arrested in his Kilimani home, where he was said to be living under the guise of a Kenyan Air Force brigadier.
How did the KDF arrest the fake KDF brigadier?
According to the incident book of the Parklands Police Station, a member of the public notified authorities after discovering suspicious activity involving recruitment letters for the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) followed Maingi to his rental unit at Chery Apartments, where he was arrested at 7:40pm on Monday, November 17.
At the time of his arrest, Maingi was dressed in full military uniform, with a brigade insignia and gorget patches, to indicate a higher rank than his actual rank.
“It was reported by a member of the public that there was a middle-aged man posing as a KDF brigadier who was issuing summons letters to unsuspecting Kenyans in the Westlands to report to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret,” the police report read.
What did the police find in the fake KDF officer’s house?
A subsequent search of his residence resulted in a pile of incriminating material that the police will use in the case against him.
Investigators found six forged confession letters purporting to be from the Ministry of Defense, seven call letters all with identical serial numbers, and seven fingerprint forms.

Maingi is still in custody at Parklands awaiting further investigation and court appearance, while the case is now being officially handled by DCI Parklands.
“The items found have been kept as exhibits after the inventory has been taken. He is in custody awaiting processing and being brought to court. The case of PBC and DCI Parklands is involved,” the police said.
