Kenya Lionesses mauled Ivory Coast in their first game of the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament taking place at Ngong Road’s RFUEA Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
The Kenya Lionesses began their Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament on a high note, cruising to a dominant 44-0 victory over Ivory Coast at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
Janet Okello set the tone early, opening the scoring with a slick finish after a precise pass from Grace Okulu found her racing down the left wing. Okello then doubled the lead with another well-timed run down the right flank, once again assisted by Okulu’s sharp playmaking.
Sheila Chajira powered her way over for Kenya’s third try but was later substituted for Sheila Akinyi after sustaining an injury that required treatment.

Undeterred, Okello scored her third try just before halftime despite Ivory Coast’s desperate attempts to halt the Kenya captain’s charge.
The second half saw fresh legs make an immediate impact. Freshia Oduor, coming on for Okello, made a dazzling run around the posts before setting up Cristabel ‘Tata’ Lindo—who replaced Grace Okulu—to score a well-converted try.
Edith Nariaka added to Ivory Coast’s woes with another try, while substitute Nelly Chikombe sealed the emphatic win by scoring on her debut just seconds after coming on the pitch.
Kenya’s commanding 44-0 win sends a strong message as they hunt their second continental title on home soil, keeping their hopes alive in the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s tournament.
