Kalonzo mentioned the construction of the Emali-Matiliku road that has not yet started, which the president had inaugurated on the first day of his working visit to Ukambani.
How much will the Emali-Matiliku road cost?
While addressing residents of Emali town on Wednesday, November 12, the president announced that the road will be built at a cost of KSh 1.1 billion and will stretch 20 kilometers as part of the Ukia-Emali Highway.

According to the president, the road will increase access to key markets by connecting the business centers of Kativani, Manywani, Matiliku, Kalamba, Nziu, and Ukia, as well as the town of Wote, with onward connections to Kajiado, Nairobi, and Mombasa.
He added that the project will reduce transportation costs, increase trade in perishable products and livestock products, and enable farmers to access markets more efficiently, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and increasing their income.
The President continued to stop the plants, indicating that construction will begin soon.
However, two days later, Kalonzo visited the area to confirm if any work had started.
Has the construction of Emali-Matiliku road started?
Kalonzo went there on Friday evening, November 14, and claimed he did not find any activity on the ground.
He found a plaque detailing the project without any sign of actual work going on.
The leader of Wiper immediately accused him Ruto by spreading empty words masquerading as progress and involving Kenyans in what he called subtle political shows.
He also criticized the president for allegedly prioritizing public relations over visible service delivery.
“I visited the Emali-Matiliku road, which was inaugurated just two days ago by Mr. Ruto. Surprisingly, all the big plants are gone, and no work has started. This pattern is repeating itself across the country: an administration more interested in grand inaugurations and photo opportunities than actual progress. Projects are announced with excitement, but people are left waiting for the real work to be done. This is why the whole country is singing #WANTAM as our second National Anthem,” he said.
At the same time, the president received a good reception in Ukambani counties as local leaders who joined the opposition appeared in his meetings.
What promise did Ruto promise the voters of Ukambani?
In Makueni, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior welcomed the president, indirectly supporting that he would implement important projects in the area.

The President noted that the region had been used to opposition for a long time, and that Kalonzo’s five-year period in the grand coalition government led by Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga it did not benefit them.
