Musili Mawathe, Member of Parliament for Embakasi South under the Wiper Party, suspended Parliament on Thursday, November 13.
Kimani Ichung’wa, Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Kikuyu state, was the one who raised the matter first, accusing Mawathe of disrupting the proceedings.
Was Musili Mawathe drunk in parliament?
“The Member of Parliament is clearly drunk. I know it is Thursday afternoon, but no one has the right to appear in Parliament drunk.
And a member of parliament cannot come to distort things in the parliament when he is clearly drunk. Speaker, I will make a motion to name the member of parliament for appearing very drunk,” Ichung’wa said.
Another part of the video showed Parliament officials standing over the MP as he spoke angrily into the microphone, his words being drowned out by other MPs who were shouting.
Gladys Shollei, Acting Speaker, replied:
“Mr. Mawathe, you have already been expelled from the Parliament areas and therefore, you cannot even issue an order.
Please leave. Sergeant at Arms, continue to remove Mawathe from Parliament.”
An angry Mawathe shouted at the Sergeant at Arms as he indicated that he was leaving. He then threatened to attack one of the MPs while using abusive language.
“Don’t be stupid,” Mawathe said.
However, many MPs shouted at him, telling him to leave Parliament.
“God sees you, and Kenyans see you too,” the female MP said.
