Moses Kuria slams IEBC after video surfaced warning Gachagua not to step on Mbeere North

In a tweet on Monday, November 10, Kuria criticized the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for failing to take action against the people behind the video.

Who threatened Rigathi Gachagua?

A video has surfaced online showing a group of five people threatening Gachagua due to his planned visit to Mbeere North to promote Democratic Party (DP) candidates.

In the video, a person was heard saying that the former vice president will face hatred when he visits Mbeere North on November 16.

“We have no other job from today until the day Rigathi Gachagua said he is coming to Mbeere North. You will know there are men here in Mbeere North; prove you are a man…” said one person in a video seen by TUKO.co.ke

Sometimes using insults, another voice advised the former vice president against sending his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, on his political activities in the county.

“Come on the 16th if you are a man, but leave Pastor Dorcas at home; don’t bring him every time you go. We respect women, so come alone and we will deal like men,” said someone else.

Kuria’s comments about the video

According to Kuria, the video shows that the opposition parties are not allowed to mobilize the campaign in Mbeere North, but the IEC has not taken any action.

The former minister emphasized that Mbeere North currently belongs to the election commission, adding that they should take control of all matters related to the election.

“Dear IEBC. Is this what 2027 will be like? I have discussed this with your Electoral Commissioner several times. There is no action. Elections are a process, not an event. Mbeere North currently belongs to IEBC, not the government. The responsibility lies with you,” said Kuria.

Kuria warned that Kenya is in danger of following in the footsteps of the recent elections Tanzaniaif IEBC fails to strengthen the confidence of Kenyans.

“Your main food is public trust. With this event that conflicts with free and fair elections, how can we have faith in you? Or are you competing with Tanzania?” he wondered.

What IEBC said about violence in Kasipul

In other news, the election commission has launched an investigation into the violence that led to deaths in Kasipul State.

Tension has emerged in Kasipul after new violence intervened in the by-election campaigns to replace Feza Member of Parliament who died, Ong’ondo Were, who was disaffected in Nairobi.

The November 27 by-election has turned into a bitter struggle between ODM and independent candidate Philip Aroko, a former member of ODM.
