How close were Kalonzo and Raila?

Kalonzo and Raila had a good political relationship.

They started working together towards the 2007 general election, where they ran for the ODM-Kenya presidential ticket. The movement split, and ran as rivals, with Kalonzo serving as vice president in a post-election power-sharing government while Raila served as prime minister.

From 2013 onwards, Kalonzo put aside his presidential aspirations to support Raila, serving as his running mate in the 2013 (CORD), 2017 (NASA), and 2022 (Declaration of Unity – One Kenya Union) presidential elections. This period strengthened their alliance within the opposition.
