It all started, on October 31, when heavy rains caused flash floods, rockfalls, and mudslides that, ultimately, destroyed villages along the Kerio Valley.
When the rains started, the villagers were surprised, and according to the authorities, also the language and a lot of water flowed down Mount Kerio, a steep rock.
When it rained with heavy floods in the area, dirt and debris were washed away to farms and people’s houses throughout the sub-counties of Marakwet East and Marakwet West.
By Saturday, November 1, the villages of Embobut and Murkutwa were covered in mud and also surrounded by flood water.
