Sikh States: Chaos Breaks Out After Hooligans Destroy MP’s Property, Disrupt Workers

Bungoma: The Member of Parliament for Kabuchai Majimbo Kalasingha has counted the loss after thugs destroyed his shop.

Unknown persons who attacked on Monday, November 3, also escaped with valuables from his shop.

Witnesses recounted when the Majimbo store was vandalized.

Witnesses speaking to K24 said that the hooligans entered the shops and harassed the workers there before running away.

“They entered the kitchen, and took food. They took everything from televisions to chairs. They took valuables worth KSh 1.8 million. They also attacked our staff and left them injured before leaving,” one man said.

He also called police officers from Chwele to investigate in order to arrest the people who planned the crime.

An employee said that the thugs threw stones at the area before entering.

“When they came in, they broke the windows. They stole my goods that I had recently acquired,” he said.

Another woman, who claims to be a neighbor of the politician, said that she witnessed how people were carrying valuables from the store.

For luck bad, he turned from a witness to a victim, as the phone was stolen while he was watching the incident.

“I am a neighbor of that politician. He lives a normal life while I live below. I was at my house when I saw people carrying things. Finally, a large crowd came to my house and stole my phone,” he said.

Why was the Sinhala State store destroyed?

Residents of the area associate the incident with political tension in the area before the by-elections on November 27.

The incident is reported to be linked to the support of the Sikhs for the candidate of MCA in Kabuchai-Chwele ward in the next election.

In response to the incident, Kalasinga used his social media to criticize those who vandalized his shop.

“I strongly condemn the violence that has been going on in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward. What does the MCA by-election have to do with my personal property? Dear residents, let us maintain peace campaigns and maintain respect. The late Mr. James Barasa was never violent. I strongly condemn this type of behavior,” the MCA statement read in part.

Protesters opposing the bill threw stones at the building, damaging the building’s windows.
