An officer who was guarding a container containing Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) papers was shot dead on Monday, November 3.

According to NTVthe perpetrators behind the evil act managed to escape with an AK-47 rifle that had 30 bullets.

The police officer, identified as Chrispine Ouma, died on the spot after being shot in the head by unknown assailants.

His colleague said that he heard gunshots, which made him run to the scene, and he found Ouma’s body dead at the scene.

Initial investigations indicated that the attackers were looking for Ouma’s weapon.

The body of the deceased was later taken to the mortuary, where an autopsy would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The police have begun to conduct a detailed investigation into the crime to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice and the gun is found.

The final KJSEA exam for Grade 9 students began on Monday, October 27. The exams are the first under the Proficiency Based Curriculum.

The Ministry of Education also announced that KJSEA results and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results will be announced in December.

The officer was identified as Bernard Koome. He was working in the Special Police Prevention and Verification Unit (SPIV).

Koome was at work with three of his colleagues, inspecting the motorbikes to ensure compliance with the unique registration regulations required of all boda boda operators in Thika Town.

The officer had stopped a motorcyclist whose motorcycle did not have the required code. Things went awry when a law enforcement officer removed the motorcycle’s ignition key to prevent the motorcyclist from fleeing the scene.

This is when the motorcyclist, who seemed worried, pulled out a pistol and shot the officer in the throat. The bullet exited the back, causing life-threatening injuries.

The suspect left the scene before police officers arrested him. Koome, the officer, was rushed to Thika Nursing Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A loaded magazine from the Ceska Pistol was recovered from the scene. In an effort to carry out a thorough investigation, Thika Department’s Criminal Investigation Officer, Jacinta Mbaika and senior police officers from Kiandutu visited the scene.
