President William Ruto has left the country for Qatar, in a mission aimed at strengthening the relationship between Kenya and Qatar.

The head of state is also eager to secure new investment agreements and position Kenya as an important player in international development discussions.
According to the White House on Monday, November 3, the president’s visit will combine diplomatic engagement with economic diplomacy as he tries to attract investment in Kenya’s infrastructure, energy, and agriculture sectors.

What is the purpose of Ruto’s visit to Qatar?
In a statement, the palace spokesman Hussein Mohamed he explained that Ruto will also represent Kenya and the African Group at the Second United Nations Conference on Social Development (WSSD2).
He is expected to defend balanced international financial systems and strong representation for African countries in international decision-making discussions.
The conference, with themes on poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion, brings together world leaders, policy makers, and development experts.
Ruto’s message will highlight Kenya’s commitment to inclusive growth and his administration’s efforts to build an economy that works for all.
While in Doha, Ruto is also expected to hold high-level bilateral talks with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar.
What are the important activities that Ruto will have in Qatar?
The discussion will aim to expand trade and investment cooperation, especially in the areas of agriculture, energy, transport, and logistics.

The two leaders are expected to finalize several investment agreements designed to improve Kenya’s infrastructure and accelerate major projects in renewable energy and transport.
Mohamed said that these agreements are part of Ruto’s broader strategy to expand Kenya’s development cooperation and reduce over-dependence on traditional partners.
“The President will promote Qatar’s expanded investment and strategic cooperation in agriculture, especially food security and climate-friendly agriculture, as well as renewable energy, green hydrogen, health, tourism, transport, and logistics,” a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke read.
Through targeted partnerships, the government aims to develop climate-friendly agriculture, expand food security programs, and promote green hydrogen production.

Another important part of Ruto’s agenda in Qatar is the expansion of the Bilateral Labor Agreement between Kenya and Qatar.
The new system will include more professional and technical categories, creating broader avenues of employment for Kenyan workers beyond domestic duties.
“He will also engage Qatari business leaders to expand public-private partnerships. In order to expand youth employment and strengthen the diaspora’s contribution, the President will pursue the expansion of the Bilateral Labor Agreement between Kenya and Qatar to include more professional and technical roles, and improve skills training in line with Qatar’s labor market needs. This will create new avenues for Kenyan youth and help those who are already working in Qatar as they continue to contribute to the overall economy,” read the statement in part.

Did Ruto get job opportunities abroad?
Elsewhere, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula praised the Ruto government for expanding employment opportunities abroad.
He claimed that at least 80,000 Kenyans are now working in Qatar, a move he attributed to Ruto’s labor migration policies.
He also criticized the proposal of Rigathi Gachagua that Kenyans should stop sending money until Ruto leaves power.
